Walker completes 600 for 600 Summer Challenge
This July everyone at Walker has been involved in a Challenge.
The aim - for the team to complete an additional 600 minutes of exercise between them – running, walking, swimming or cycling – every single day in July. That’s 18,600minutes.
The 600 for 600 target was smashed in 27 days, collectively taking part in 532 activities, covering 2,616km and climbing 21,861m!
To celebrate completing the Challenge the whole team took a 60 minute walk from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and back yesterday.
We undertook the Challenge to raise awareness of SUDEP (sudden death in epilepsy), a condition which affects 1 in 1,000 epilepsy sufferers, and leads to 1,200 deaths every year, mainly in young adults. Half of these are thought to be preventable with increased awareness and education, hence 600 for 600.
It’s a cause that really matters to us, as our Founder Martin Walker lost his daughter Amber to SUDEP last year. She was just 22 years old, and had suffered seizures throughout her teenage years.
Through that whole period, not one Consultant, GP or specialist nurse raised the phenomenon that ultimately took Amber’s life. If they had she might still be here today.
SUDEP Action is an epilepsy charity which is doing everything it can to spread the word, and our campaign aims to improve awareness.
